Nearly 200 million experience considerable difficulties functioning in daily life.

The lack of support services can make people with mental disabilities overly dependent on their families and caregivers in many areas. This prevents them from being economically active and socially included. Achieving independent living – having choice and control over support – is the ultimate goal for people with mental disabilities.

In this context, grocery shopping is an important, everyday activity and serves among other things as a supply of existential food. It’s a big challenge for people with mental disabilities to plan their purchase, distinguish between different products and locate them at the point of sale.

To overcome this challenge, a mobile assistive technology device will be designed for people with mental disabilities that extends their abilities and allows them to reduce their dependence on help from others.
