People suffering from dementia will increasingly shape our society. One can indeed speak of a new elderly “sub-culture” as a target group, which will become more and more relevant for society as well as economically. This fact poses a multilayered challenge for the world we live in, and it is appropriate to react to it. It is also what my empiric research project focuses on.
There is a research gap within the topic of dementia: that of empiric design research. Good design is orientated to people’s needs. In order to recognize these needs, empiric data is gathered in ethnological field research. As a researcher, my encounters with these people are very close; I delve into their everyday world. Using the knowledge garnered through this research, I will create a design concept that I would then like to make available to the design industry. The goal of the project is to demonstrate that the topic of dementia will not only be of major importance for the state and our society, but also for the discipline of design.
