In Zurich, there have always been interest groups campaigning for more open space in the city. The Rote Fabrik is a result of such efforts. Unfortunately, due to their ins- titutionalization the basic idea of freedom lost over the years.
I assume that freedom is only possible if the people who manage it, work for free and implement their own interests. In Zurich Oerlikon, there is the Mundwerk of the association Kulturbiotop, which is operated for almost 10 years by volunteers and is a major venue for concerts and the- ater. Like many associations there is a lack of new members.
To counteract this, I develop strategies to increase awareness of the gab. Always on the assumption that there is a need for such spaces.
First, I examine the catchment area of Oerlikon to its cultural offerings and the needs of residents. Various interviews, field research and talks form the basis for my next move.
With means of communication I want to draw attention to the usability, show examp- les of what is possible and raise the awareness of the place.
