As a gateway between the analog and the digital world, search engines hold a crucial position, and therefore it is important for us to understand and use those portals adequately. How much do search engines know about us? What happens with this information now and in the future?

This project enquires from the user's point of view how graphic design can improve orientation and transparency in the process of online searching, specifically when it comes to personalisation in information seeking. Through quantitative studies, a target group is defined, which then determines the specific field of application. Interviews and participatory lab-situations generate the concept on which the result is based.

These methodologies produce a final product which enables users to have better oversight on the information gathered by search engines and therefore to be in greater control of their search queries. It also aims to make the audience rethink information-privacy for the future.
