In their making new knowledge is often gained, because in constructing an image one has to view its object very differentiated.

The goal of this thesis is to create visualisations simultaneously to the archeological research, and thereby to support the archeologists in understanding the complex records of the bathing quarter in Baden, CH.

A 3d-reconstruction and fitting Lebensbilder are made, to see how the process of gaining knowledge in the creation of scientific visualisations works. This process is observed in the daily work of the researching archeologists of the Baden excavation site, as well as in experiments with marginally involved archeologists. Suggestions to optimize the organisation of the described process as well as the design of the visualisations are tested continually. By this, visualisations will be incorporated into the research process as an important device of gaining knowledge.
