The waste of the food produced for human consumption amounts for a major loss of natural resources such as water, land and energy. This loss of natural resources as a consequence of unnecessary food production cannot continue. Biophilic Kitchen addresses the issue of food waste. The goal of the project is to inform people about food waste and to design a set of kitchen objects, inspired by traditional food storage-and preservation methods and science, in order to encourage connection with food and minimize food waste. In my project I focus on in-home produced food waste. I argue that consumers’ loss of connection with the farming process is one of the causes of the food waste in developed countries. In order to re-establish this connection between people and food I have found inspiration in knowledge from traditional societies and older generations that have a closer connection to food. I also use scientific knowledge to support the findings from the traditional knowledge.TutorsBitten Stetter, Francis Müller
